Meet Gordon Owens (GO)

I have read car magazines since I was a little boy.

I couldn’t wait for the new issue of MotorTrend, Car & Driver or Automobile to arrive in the mail box.

I could tell you the performance stats, options and cost of every sports car that came out from the mid-80’s on. As I poured over every page of those magazines and studied the pictures I could only dream of the day I would own a sports car.

Over the years I have had many sports cars in my garage, some better than others.

My first car was a Mazda MX-6 that had a little turbo charged 4-cylinder that would have you grinning from ear to ear when the boost came on. Every enthusiast should own a Miata along the way as that is a great drivers car and makes you feel like a hero even just driving around town.

As with most people, your childhood dreams can fade with the realities of adult life. As I sat at home during all the craziness that 2020 sent our way, I found myself diving back into the pages of the car magazines and getting excited about driving. With modern tech, the pages come alive and quickly the hours pass watching videos of cars being pushed to their limits around the track or through a great driving road.

So I made a decision that 2021 would be the year that I stop reading about great cars on great tracks and I would start living my dreams. After countless hours of research, watching comparisons and weighing my budget I finally settled on a BMW M2 as my best option for a track ready daily driver.

As I write this, I am on a Delta flight to Houston, TX to pick up a 2017 Long Beach Blue M2 with a 6 speed manual. I have owned both manual and automatic cars over the years. I see the value in each, but if I am going to learn to drive a car on a track I want to do it the old fashion way and row the gears myself.

I hope you will follow me on my journey as venture out of the pages of the car magazines and get onto the track for real!
